The books at left are entitled "History of the Civil War in the United States." Volumes One and Two(Volume First and Volume Second!) were written during and the war itself! Volume Three (Volume Third) was written just after the close of the war.

The purpose of the large gathering of authors was to as accurately as possible record the events as they unfolded.

These volumes precede the US Government's official account by 3-5 years.

The item at the left on the note is a bullet from the Civil War. The nickel is placed to judge relative size.

The note says, "Picked up from battle field of Chattinooga by Dr. R.E. Bolling. Nov 1899."

Dr. Bolling is Dina's grandfather's father.

The crochet was made during the Civil War by Sue Bolling during the seige of Vicksburg.
